About The Position

Join our dynamic Interventional Urology business unit, where your experience will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. At our innovative R&D lab, you will use resources to turn creative ideas into reality. You can influence the design of next-generation, minimally invasive devices and work on exciting single-use technologies that redefine standards in urology. The Engineer 3 develops innovative products that address unmet needs for important urological, urogynecology & colorectal conditions. As an integral member of the R&D team, this position is primarily responsible for developing new products and making significant improvements to existing products in the areas of customer features, reliability, and cost. This role requires experience with device design and development, design for manufacturability and a variety of technical skills including failure analysis, product testing, prototyping, statistical analyses, component design, and knowledge of plastic/metal component fabrication techniques. Critical thinking and strong communication skills are also keys to success in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related major)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in medical device industry; or at least 3 years of medical device experience with Master’s; or a PhD without experience.
  • Hands-on with mechanical devices and components.
  • Solid verbal communication and written documentation skills including report writing.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks software.
  • Exposure to all phases of product development including design, implementation, verification, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, MDD/MDR, and FDA QSR.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with hand-held disposable medical devices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new products and product concepts using existing and emerging technologies per Design Control requirements.
  • Define customer requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Ideate new concepts and submit invention disclosures.
  • Design prototypes and feasibility models for proof-of-concept testing.
  • Develop new device test methods; execute tests to characterize/verify product performance and safety.
  • Analytically assess data and test methods to evaluate designs and down select.
  • Prepare and manage test protocols/reports and other aspects of the verification and validation effort.
  • Partner with suppliers to develop new components.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing and quality engineers to incorporate design for manufacturability.
  • Plan and execute assigned actions to meet overall project deadlines.
  • Stay current with technology, practices, and general engineering knowledge related to the R&D Engineer field through seminars, literature, and peer groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
