About The Position

Your job is more than a job. The Engineer 2nd Class is responsible for operating and maintaining various components of the heating ventilation, air conditioning systems, laundry and dietary equipment. Repairs, installs, replaces and tests equipment and components of the systems. Maintains all related machinery in the boiler plant, hospital complex and provides general maintenance to patient rooms and other areas. Your every day Corrective and preventative maintenance: Performs corrective, preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems, includes air handlers, exhaust fans, energy recovery units, dampers, sensors and controls. Performs maintenance on all mechanical equipment throughout the complex, including laundry and dietary equipment. Performs regularly scheduled rounds and proactively identifies potential issues. Maintains a high craft level and maintains cleanliness of the equipment and mechanical rooms. Takes scheduled readings. Patient safety/ fire life safety: Implements HVAC safety, life safety, patient safety and infection prevention measures pertaining to craft trades. Inspects the HVAC components and understands the impact the equipment has on patient care. Conducts routine environmental and safety rounds. Troubleshoot repairs: Reads prints, reviews BAS data to evaluate HVAC equipment issues and develops appropriate plans of action and repairs. Handles work orders: Documents and prioritizes all request called in by departments. Identifies the problem source, repairs problem and/or corrects problem until a specialist can be dispatched to the site. Loads work orders and PM requests upon completion. Performs maintenance of generators: Provides routine maintenance on generators. Maintains oil, water, battery and fuel levels replenished on all eight emergency diesel generators. Ensures that generators are always ready to run. Performs maintenance of towers, chillers and boilers. Performs water treatment for cooling towers, boilers, chilled water and reheating system. Ensures that adequate supplies of chemicals and reagents are maintained in stock. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience. (UMC)
  • Certification Name: Second Class Air Conditioning Required Issuer: City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses Licensure Speciality: Trade Licensure Entity: UMC
  • Certification Name: Second Class Boiler's License Required Issuer: City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses Licensure Speciality: Trade Licensure Entity: UMC
  • Experience with heating, air conditioning, hydronic systems, air moving and filtration equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of building/room pressurization and indoor air quality.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools, equipment and electrical testing equipment requiring manual dexterity.
  • Ability to understand complex oral and written instructions, schematic drawings and layouts.
  • Utilize computer, printer, copier, telephone, calculator, cell phone and 2-way radios.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software products.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
  • Ability to work alternative/shift work schedules including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime hours.
  • Operate building automation system.
  • Climb ladders.
  • Handle heavy lifting.
  • Work in crawl spaces, tunnels and tight areas that may be dirty and noisy.
  • Respond quickly during emergency situations.
