We are seeking an engineer or applied scientist to join the Illumina Sequencing Platforms group. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to technology at the foundation of Illumina's future products. The individual will be a key contributor to the development of consumable substrates and sensing platforms.

  • Design and build complex analytical and/or measurement systems, and integrate them with data acquisition and control software.
  • Electronic device characterization with emphasis on low-SNR measurements.
  • Design of complex experimental protocols and execution of experiments on unstable and/or highly variable systems.
  • Meticulous execution of complex experimental protocols.
  • Make adjustments to software control in one or more programming environments (Python, Labview, C) to implement changes and developments in experiments.
  • Systematic troubleshooting to understand failure modes (FMEA).
  • Keeping detailed lab notebooks, preparing reports, invention disclosures, updates and summaries for managers and teams as directed.
  • B.S. with 2 plus years of experience or recent M.S. graduates in an engineering or science discipline (engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, nanoengineering, etc).
  • Experience with one or more of the following is highly beneficial: electronics (basic amplifiers and circuits); automation and data acquisition systems; signal processing; mechanical design.
  • Programming skills in Python, Labview, C or comparable platform.
  • Strong data analysis skills, ability to interpret and draw conclusions from limited to large amounts of data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask on projects with aggressive timelines.
  • Strong work ethic with flexible schedule.
  • Understanding of single molecule electronics and biophysics.
  • Interdisciplinary experience combining electronic sensing, nanofabrication, surface chemistry and molecular biology to address biological problems.
  • Strong preference will be given to individuals with intense curiosity about the world around them and demonstrated aptitude for digging deep into experimental methods and results.
