About The Position

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise. Provides engineering services for the design and construction of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. Provides technical project management for certain phases of a substation project including scheduling, design, cost estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. Assists with engineering studies and investigations and assists with preparing oral and written reports. Provides substation engineering assistance to other departments. Provides technical input to assist in project planning. Responsibilities include applying prescribed methods and standard practices in performing specific tasks within substation projects and assisting engineering staff on more complex projects. This is the entry engineer skill level position in substation engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
• Engineer 2 requires one to three years of engineering experience.
• Senior engineer requires five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed PE.
• If no PE license, then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer.
• Senior engineer 2 requires eight years industry experience and PE.
• If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer.
• Principal engineer requires 12 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of specialized nature.
• Requires PE. If no PE license, must have 15 years as a practicing engineer.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system.
• Provide technical project management for certain phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections.
• Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assist with preparing oral and written reports.
• Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
• Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
• Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
• Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
