About The Position

The Swing Floating Engagement Specialist acts as support for the other swing staff. This is a floating position and will be scheduled at specific facilities on a rotating basis depending on the needs of the agency. The swing shift floating engagement specialists will need to be flexible with location as on occasion when there is a call out, this position will cover the open position at that facility and work independently to complete the responsibilities. These programs provide a safe and warm space for houseless or formerly homeless men, women, and children. The engagement specialist is responsible for providing resource brokering services including crisis intervention, conflict resolution and other duties at our shelters and housing program.

Requirements

  • Position requires a minimum of one (1) years’ experience in a related field, specifically with people experiencing homelessness or low-income individuals. Experience in dealing with substance abuse, mental health concerns, and crisis intervention desired.
  • Social and economic issues that create poverty, working successfully with practices and techniques related to people with low income to achieve greater self-sufficiency.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the on-call staff during their scheduled hours, providing support to other swing shift staff by responding to their questions, concerns, or incidents. Receiving calls from staff reporting their inability to cover their scheduled shifts and calling on-call staff to schedule replacements.
  • Work with the Program Director, Housing Navigator, and other Engagement Specialists to ensure that the facilities are safe and welcoming to a broad diversity of people including people of all races, nationalities, languages, ages, and abilities.
  • Provide basic intake and orientation to all new residents daily, including but not limited to reviewing Shelter Expectations.
  • Provide conflict resolution by encouraging positive methods for problem solving
  • Provide ongoing services to all shelter residents as detailed in their housing stability plan.
  • Provide resource brokering, clothing, blankets, bedding, and other needed items in a fair and equitable manner to residents.
  • Notify police, fire, and emergency medical or other emergency personnel if warranted by events in the Shelter.
  • Meet with supervisor and participate in department staff meetings and quarterly staff training.
  • Complete housing assessments with each resident.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, up-to-date daily documentation of residents served and their basic demographic information. Enter data into ServicePoint. Submit paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Record each shift activity in the shift logbook.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with residents and other employees
  • Other duties as assigned.
