Description Perform special duties as assigned. Prepare and review highway plans for the acquisition of Right of Way and Construction or reconstruction of road facilities, to include C plans, M plans, SAAP plans, No plans and subdivision plan review. Assist in review of the compliance and permitting of Erosion and Sediment control as per state laws per DCR and DEQ. Support the roadway and bridge design staff in hydrology and hydraulic principles and design. Support field and section personnel residencies for Drainage and Erosion and Sediment control. How you will contribute: Communication: Communicate with VDOT staff as well as external staff (consultants, localities, etc.) to proactively resolve issues. Advise supervisor on critical developments and field observations. Computer Skills : Utilize Micro Station, Geopak, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft publisher as well as other non-CADD applications and Design tasks to perform all Hydraulic Design for Roadways Perform duties as assigned. : Records Maintenance : Compile and maintain automated and written reports and project records for assigned program areas. Records are maintained in accordance with guidelines and policies. Roadway Design and Cost Estimates : Demonstrate knowledge of design factor to complete a roadway design project from Scoping to Full Construction Plans. Develop highway construction plans in compliance with VDOT Standards and Policies and AASHTO policies using Automated Engineering Software. Coordinate the flow of information, both orally and in writing, to and from others that contribute to the overall project. Technical Assistance : Address questions, policies and procedures related to assigned program area. Provide support to field personnel. Provide guidance related to VDOT policy and standards. Time Management : Demonstrate knowledge of all project activities, including IPM, Scoping, Field Inspection, Right of Way, Advertisement, etc. Manage time to ensure project work is completed efficiently and within timeframes established by supervisor or inform supervisor in a timely manner regarding issues which may affect the scheduled completion of an assignment. Ability to make mathematical and algebraic computations. Ability to read, interpret technical plans and specifications. Knowledge of Erosion and Sediment control laws and their compliance. Knowledge of standard drafting methods, procedures, and roadway engineering design principles. Skill in the use of drafting tools, equipment, and CADD. Additional Considerations: A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering, Roadway Design, Technical Drafting, Mathematics, Computer Technologies, or related field desired. Knowledge of hydrology, erosion and sediment control design, plan review and open and closed systems and their principles.
