About The Position

The Energy Technology Project Specialist at the U.S. Department of Energy is responsible for managing and providing input on complex financial assistance awards related to energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. This role involves overseeing cost-shared agreements, conducting reviews, advising on project plans, and developing systems to meet statutory requirements. The specialist will also engage with stakeholders to identify and eliminate barriers to energy use in the U.S., support funding solicitations, and ensure compliance with departmental goals.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 in the Federal service.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating financial assistance pre-award and post-award actions.
  • Advising on project plans, budgets, and schedules for industrial renewable energy technology projects.
  • Collaborating with private, state, or federal sectors in testing new applications of technology supporting renewable energy or energy efficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical Project Officer certification (Level I and II) within 12 months of placement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide input to policy and work process improvements on financial assistance awards.
  • Serve as a focal point for management and direction of cost-shared financial assistance agreements from solicitation through close-out.
  • Provide advice and guidance on pre-award documents for financial assistance agreements and contracts.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and site visits to examine administrative and technical issues affecting project execution.
  • Develop systems and procedures to meet statutory requirements and departmental goals for energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
  • Collect and analyze data on industry progress, projects, and new technologies.
  • Identify critical issues limiting energy use in the U.S. and work with stakeholders to develop solutions.
  • Support the development of funding solicitations and review applications for funding.
