About The Position

Antora Energy is seeking a Senior/Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Product Development Team, focusing on delivering zero-carbon industrial heat and power through innovative solid-state thermal battery technology. The role involves collaboration across teams to design, model, prototype, and validate mechanical designs, contributing to the advancement of long-duration energy storage solutions. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, passionate about climate change, and committed to building a diverse and effective team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years relevant industry experience OR Master's degree with 4+ years relevant industry experience OR PhD with 2+ years industry experience for Senior Engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years relevant industry experience OR Master's degree with 8+ years relevant industry experience OR PhD with 4+ years relevant industry experience for Staff Engineer.
  • Strong proficiency in independently developing and delivering hardware products as the responsible mechanical design engineer from cradle to grave.
  • Strong proficiency in designing metallic components fabricated via welding, machining, sheet metal forming, and brazing for low-mid volume production.
  • Strong proficiency in creating 3D CAD in Solidworks and managing data in PDM software.
  • Strong proficiency in creating engineering drawings (GD&T, ASME Y14.5).
  • Strong proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) software, e.g. ANSYS, for structural and/or thermal analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with process engineering equipment (valves, actuators, instrumentation, piping) and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Direct ownership of structural, fluid, and/or electrical subsystems and components within Antora's thermal battery module.
  • Perform design calculations, FEA, and trade studies for structural, thermal, and fluid systems.
  • Work closely with team members and cross-functionally to develop system requirements.
  • Identify and execute on ways to improve reliability and decrease cost.
  • Take ownership of partially bounded design scope at a subsystem level or higher.
  • Execute quickly while remaining flexible in a fast-changing environment.
  • Help address broader team risks/changes when they arise.
  • Develop and maintain engineering and CAD best practices, standards, documentation, and infrastructure.
  • Mentor interns and/or junior engineers to develop their technical and professional capabilities.
  • May directly manage a few engineers as a technical project manager or people manager.
