About The Position

Union Power Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Energy Specialist who will actively assist and promote all Union Power Cooperative energy programs and services while responding to member inquiries and concerns regarding bills, rates, usage and electric service. Creates awareness of the value of electricity and promotes safe/efficient use of electricity while remaining focused on the Cooperative's Mission and Vision Statements, and the promotion of the Cooperative's Values.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the energy sector is required and utility industry experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to members, Cooperative employees and the public in both technical and non-technical terms.
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of HVAC, water heaters, well pumps, swimming pool pumps, pool pump heaters, hot-tub motors, electric vehicles and their potential impact on consumption results.
  • Ability to apply the Cooperatives' billing rates, taxes, franchise fees and service classifications.
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Must be able to organize work to meet deadlines, possess high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to gather information, evaluate data, and develop recommendations for specific programs and services.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills including proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Must be able to travel on extended stay trips to attend meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • Must have and maintain a Class C driver's license for use in departmental duties.
  • Must be able to access member crawl spaces and attics throughout the year.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor degree in Energy Management or related field highly desired.
  • Certifications and accreditations in a related field are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/maintain trusting relationships with members through strong communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Balance various responsibilities at a given time by being self-driven with the ability to multi-task; ability to create/maintain schedules along with responsibility to follow-up for exceeding expectations.
  • Provide Tier II level support for high bill complaints escalated from Customer Service - Research member accounts to discuss concerns and offer suggestions on potential contributing factors based on AMI data (actual consumption results), weather, changes on a property, along with life-style choices.
  • Educate/advise members based on the ability to listen to the member, identify their concerns, research and analyze their data in order to provide a possible cause/solution, and effectively communicate results back to the member.
  • Conduct on-site energy audits (residential and commercial) as necessary – designed to review an account history, identify time of change with consumption results, analyze contributing factors and opportunities for improvement.
  • Advise members on the safe and efficient uses of energy and energy efficiency practices.
  • Serve as an energy advisor for new home construction and retrofit conversions.
  • Coordinate and assist with energy efficiency services and programs offered by the Cooperative.
  • Maintain familiarity with all energy services resources (website, daily reports, calculators).
  • Responsible for knowing and advising members, employees and subsidiary of the most efficient and proven weatherization and energy efficiency techniques.
  • Assist with and helps maintain renewable energy interconnection initiatives, solar and wind.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge to be able to advise members on solar – how it works along with reasonable expectations with an investment
  • Maintain database of solar systems and work with Engineering Technician's to ensure that new meters are installed as requested.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge to be able to advise members on the electric vehicle market, along with charging stations, and rebates that members of the cooperative might qualify for.
  • Assist with Cooperative rebate program(s).
  • Assist with presentations on marketing programs, energy management and safe/efficient use of electricity to public, private and member groups.
  • Complete training necessary to maintain and enhance job performance.
  • Assist and participates with annual meeting planning as requested.
  • Adhere to an annual budget for products, programs and services.
  • Perform all duties assigned by supervision.
