About The Position

The Weatherization Technician I is a laborer position that performs energy-conserving improvements in homes. Daily work includes installing insulation (blown and batt) in roofs, floors, and walls; caulking/air sealing penetrations (plumbing, attic, etc.); installing baseload items, LED bulbs, low-flow aerators, and showerheads. This position seals ducts and mastic, assists with heating system installations, repairs the belly areas of mobile homes, and performs minor flooring, plumbing, and carpentry repairs. Working hours may vary with the project load, but the customary schedule is Monday – Thursday, four 10-hour days with a 30-minute lunch break. Regular attendance and punctuality are necessary for success. Daily daytime travel is required and up to 25% overnight travel is also required, as well as occasional evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Basic mathematics skills.
  • Ability to proficiently use and properly maintain tools, equipment, and materials required for duties described.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with clients regarding the scope of work.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record consistent with current CHP insurability guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of residential heating and cooling system components, air sealing, insulation methods, and weatherization techniques is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Weatherization Assistance Program Standard Work Specifications, HVAC and other applicable building codes, and OSHA Health and Safety procedures are preferred.
  • Minimum six months of experience in weatherization assistance or Construction-related work is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED, with specialized vocational certification or training, is preferred.
  • Position-related training and certification, including Retrofit Installer Technician and Lead Safe Weatherization, are preferred.
  • Conduct advanced air leakage (using a blower door), duct leakage (using pressure pans), and attic and zonal pressure diagnostics (using a digital manometer).

Responsibilities

  • Install insulation levels in thermal boundaries of the dwelling (to include the attic, exterior wall, domestic water heater, and mobile home belly) as required.
  • Install general construction materials (such as windows, siding, roofing, framing, etc.).
  • Seal, insulate, and perform basic repairs to duct systems.
  • Perform other energy-related and non-energy-related residential improvements as required.
  • Assess and report all energy-related and non-energy-related improvements in construction.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, work cooperatively, and provide outstanding quality service.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate within the Weatherization Technician skillset, as assigned.
