About the position

The energy sector is transforming-and the nation needs innovative, data-driven minds to secure an energy future that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable. At KeyLogic, you will play a meaningful role in meeting these challenges. As the prime contractor supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) under the Strategic Analysis (SA) contract, KeyLogic evaluates the technical, economic, resource, environmental, policy, and market aspects of complex energy systems. Our multidisciplinary teams apply sound engineering principles, deep domain expertise, and analytical leadership to shed light on new energy concepts and technologies to inform decision-makers. KeyLogic is seeking to expand its Energy Analysis team with multiple positions available across disciplines and levels of experience. We welcome applications from those with strong technical backgrounds, especially in engineering, science, economics, and statistics. A successful candidate might be an early-career chemical engineer (with a nascent interest in CO2 capture), or an established luminary in environmental science with a lengthy publication record and Ph.D.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly learn and assess technologies, data, operations, markets, and policies related to specific energy systems
  • Oversee the development of complex quantitative models or scenarios related to the U.S. energy system and climate policies
  • Communicate findings in high-quality deliverables and public-facing presentations, reports, memos, research papers, articles, etc.
  • Keep current with industry trends, technological breakthroughs, and changes in policies and markets

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in engineering (chemical, mechanical, or environmental), science (geology, environmental), economics, statistics/data science, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in one or more: Python, R, MATLAB, Stata, SPSS, NEMS, C++, gPROMS, Aspen, AIMMS, Pyomo, openLCA, or similar
  • Experience and/or interest in decarbonization, renewable power, hydrogen, environmental or climate policy, carbon capture, grid and utility programs, transportation infrastructure, or other energy technology sectors
  • The ability to work independently, as well as in a structured team environment alongside federal and other technical services contractors
  • Ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances as required by clients

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or Ph.D. in engineering, economics, statistics/data science, or equivalent
  • Expertise or mastery of economic theory models of energy markets, energy balances, energy sector demand-side economics; fiscal policy, greenhouse gas reporting protocols, or equivalent domains
