Position Overview: Working closely with the Senior Energy Program Manager, the energy program manager will undertake the following types of tasks: 1. technical assistance to local government clients on energy sustainability topics 2. research on projects related to policy and programs for sustainability, with particular emphasis on energy-related issues; 3. serving as a point of contact for internal and external clients interfacing with the team; 4. researching and writing guidance for best practices and/or case studies for sustainable municipal operations and sustainable community programs; 5. developing content for, and organizing, outreach and training activities such as workshops and public presentations 6. presenting policies, best practices, and case studies for expert and non-expert audiences. 7. project oversight, including reporting progress and ensuring deadlines and milestones are met. 9. training and oversight of new staffers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as public policy, urban planning, engineering, environmental science, public or business administration.
  • Associate's degree in a related field plus a minimum of three to five years of full-time work experience in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the relevant subject matter and program coordination.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complex policy issues for non-specialist audiences in presentations and reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, organize meetings, and manage multiple contact networks.
  • Ability to conduct applied research and synthesize findings for non-specialist audiences in written reports and public presentations or to apply directly to assisting local government.
  • Ability to work on schedule within deadline, and to provide necessary support for program reporting and deliverables.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work well in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Expertise in sustainable development practices, particularly in energy related topics such as energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and alternative fuel vehicles. Ability to to provide guidance and support to municipalities and schools. Familiarity with New Jersey energy programs and policies is desired.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone and email with municipal and school staff and community volunteers on program requirements. Responsive to inquiries in timely fashion.
  • Ability to make presentations for different audiences having varying levels of knowledge about sustainability and energy programs and policies.
  • Ability to conduct and analyze research, and effectively communicate findings both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in project implementation and coordination. Capable of organizing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently on assigned research tasks, including identifying resources, case studies, and related policy and program material.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to municipalities and schools to assist them in implementing energy and sustainability policies and completing Sustainable Jersey actions.
  • Conduct research on policies and best practices; write reports with analysis and recommendations; assess projects and documentation of municipal and school program participants.
  • Assist with outreach activity including development and implementation of workshops and trainings.
  • Assist Program Manager with gathering internal data for periodic grant reporting and other data needs.
