About The Position

The Energy - Midstream and Downstream Application Development Specialist will provide technical services to assigned industry customers for the purpose of sales growth. The role involves promoting the distinction between Univar and its competitors through a technical consultative approach to evaluating customer needs. The specialist will adapt and implement national product strategies and services at a local level, assist field sellers and industry team members with joint calls, and identify the best Univar technological products for customer applications. The position aims to build profitable sales and maintain long-term partnerships with customers by leveraging industry expertise and Univar resources to provide solutions to customer needs while gathering market intelligence.

Requirements

  • Successful experience (five years min) in sales, with a technical product concentration.
  • Exposure to and understanding of the distribution business is a plus.
  • Experience dealing with customers at multiple levels, both internal and external, and supplier partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle complex projects and multi-task responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage detailed work activities and be persistent in following up on details.
  • Possess tact, integrity, and high business ethics.
  • Understand current issues and align sales efforts with stated company objectives.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated selling skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communication with supplier technical resources.
  • Collaborate on product and service solutions.
  • Attend product training and continual education updates.
  • Provide feedback on technical aspects, intelligence, and marketplace.
  • Identify share loss and develop joint plans to recapture.
  • Assist in qualification of potential new suppliers and products.
  • Assist with new product launches.
  • Assist customers in solving formulating issues and options.
  • Provide technical support around each specialty product to all sales levels.
  • Represent Univar at all levels of customer as necessary.
  • Coordinate supplier meetings at key/target customers.
  • Review opportunities and coordinate efforts to close with local sales organization.
  • Conduct joint calls with Univar Sales and Suppliers at customers.
  • Develop technical proposals and generate product/service application solutions.
  • Identify new service/product opportunities through monitoring industry/market changes and customer needs.
  • Provide training and presentations.
  • Fully understand local markets, trends, and products for customers.
  • Perform required SFDC tasks as required.
  • Provide product and industry training to all Sales and Sales support teams as required.
  • Participate in all industry-related meetings and teleconferences.
  • Assist with Supplier/Customer contract negotiations.
  • Assist in business plan development including goals and forecasts.
  • Support all aspects of development of business opportunities, targets, and prospecting.
  • Provide communication to stakeholders.
  • Assist in tradeshows and industry conferences/meetings.
  • Coordinate activities with Labs as needed.
