About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical services to assigned industry customers for the purpose of sales growth. You will promote distinction between Univar and our competitors by using a technical consultative approach to needs-based evaluations of the technology utilized by customers. You will adapt and implement on a local basis the national product strategies and services as written by the Industry Director. Additionally, you will assist field sellers and industry team members with joint calls, identify which Univar technological product best suits the customer's applications, and develop strategies to promote customers' adaptation and/or conversion to Univar products. This role builds profitable sales employing a consultative approach and develops and maintains a long-term partnership with customers by using industry expertise. You will use Univar USA resources to provide solutions to customer needs and gather market intelligence.

Requirements

  • Successful experience (five years min) in sales, with a technical product concentration.
  • Exposure to and understanding of the distribution business is a plus.
  • Experience dealing with customers at multiple levels, both internal and external, and supplier partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written, necessary to communicate effectively inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle complex projects and multi-task responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage detailed work activities and be persistent in following up on details.
  • Possess tact, integrity, and high business ethics.
  • Understand current issues and align sales efforts with stated company objectives.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated selling skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communication with supplier technical resources.
  • Collaborate on product and service solutions.
  • Attend product training, continual education, and updates.
  • Provide feedback on technical aspects, intelligence, and marketplace.
  • Identify share loss and develop a joint plan to recapture.
  • Assist in qualification of potential new suppliers/products.
  • Assist with new product launches.
  • Assist customers in solving formulating issues and options.
  • Provide technical support around each specialty product to all sales levels.
  • Represent Univar at all levels of customer (2,1,0) as necessary.
  • Coordinate supplier meetings at key/target customers.
  • Review opportunities and coordinate efforts to close with local sales organization.
  • Conduct joint calls with Univar Sales and Suppliers at customers.
  • Assist in business development by developing technical proposals.
  • Generate product/service application solutions.
  • Identify new service/product opportunities through monitoring industry/market changes and customer needs.
  • Provide training and presentations.
  • Fully understand local markets/trends and products for customers.
  • Perform required SFDC tasks as required.
  • Provide product and industry training to all Sales and Sales support teams as required.
  • Participate in all industry-related meetings/teleconferences.
  • Assist with Supplier/Customer contract negotiations.
  • Assist in business plan development - goals, forecasts.
  • Support all aspects of development of business opportunities, targets, prospecting.
  • Provide communication to stakeholders.
  • Assist in tradeshows (national & local) and industry conference/meetings; website info, literature development.
  • Coordinate activities with Labs as needed.
