The Energy Benchmarking Intern will support the grocery chain’s sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives by collecting, analyzing, and reporting energy consumption data across multiple store locations. This role will assist in benchmarking performance using industry tools and help identify opportunities for energy savings and operational improvements. The internship will be based in Boise, Idaho The pay is $22.00 per hour Interns will participate in the 10-week internship that is full-time, 40 hours each week.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency principles and sustainability practices.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Interest in grocery retail operations or energy management
  • Must be currently enrolled in junior or senior year working towards a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Sustainability, Business, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills; proficiency in Excel required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with energy benchmarking tools (e.g., ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and validate energy usage data (electricity, gas, water) from various sources such as utility bills, internal systems, and vendor platforms.
  • Input and maintain data in benchmarking tools (e.g., ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager).
  • Analyze energy performance trends across stores and prepare summary reports for management.
  • Assist in identifying underperforming locations and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Support compliance with corporate sustainability goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with facilities, operations, property management and procurement teams to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Prepare presentations and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders
