The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is the largest and one of the oldest municipal police departments in the United States. Within NYPD's Deputy Commissioner, Management & Budget is the Architecture and Engineering Services Section (AESS). AESS designs and project manages a vast variety of construction projects. AESS has an Energy group associated with the section. The energy team reviews, designs, calculates and implements energy projects. Reporting to the Energy Manager of NYPD, the team coordinates with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Division of Energy Management (DEM) to reduce energy and greenhouse gas emissions through improved operations and maintenance (O&M) practices at each department facility. The Energy Team will work with DEM, NYPD Agency management, Energy Liaison Office (ELO) and individual facilities to compile and analyze data for program development and performance measurements.
