About the position

VEIC is a sustainable energy company on a mission to generate the energy solutions the world needs. For over 30 years VEIC has been working with governments, utilities, foundations, and businesses across North America to develop and deploy clean energy services that provide immediate and lasting change. With expertise in energy efficiency, building decarbonization, transportation electrification, and new approaches for a clean and flexible grid, VEIC brings innovative solutions to the market. VEIC is nationally recognized for developing pilots and programs that optimize energy use, reduce energy burdens for low-income customers, and advance new technologies. In addition to our full-service consulting business, VEIC administers three large-scale sustainable energy programs: Efficiency Vermont, Efficiency Smart, and the DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU). This is a remote position, and the ideal candidate will be located in Illinois.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research in support of energy efficiency measure characterizations
  • Participates in the development and delivery of Technical Resource Manual (TRM) update results to Illinois stakeholders
  • Review of measure characterizations developed by other VEIC staff or external stakeholders to ensure assumptions technically supported and analysis aligns with and supports Illinois energy efficiency program plans and goals
  • Participate in Technical Advisory Committee calls, to build consensus on TRM methodologies and assumptions
  • Provides support to the activities of VEIC as necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives
  • Work with experts on energy efficiency, building decarbonization, utility program design, and equity issues
  • Gain exposure to a broad range of stakeholders including midwestern investor-owned utilities, evaluators, advocates, and program implementers
  • Participate in VEIC-wide meetings, team meetings, lunch and learns, to learn about industry trends in decarbonization, network with experts across VEIC, and work with supervisor to plug into projects that may be of interest to you, where capacity allows
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC
  • Pursuing or recently completed a graduate or Master's degree in energy, engineering, data science, environmental science, public policy, sustainability or other similar degree
  • Must be a student or resident of the State of Illinois
  • Interest in energy industry, especially energy efficiency programming
  • Strong attention to detail, and interest in research and analysis
  • Outstanding candidates will demonstrate experience in research projects and have strong communication skills
  • Technical writing experience preferred
  • Self-starter
