About The Position

The PIC ENERGY CONTRACT MANAGEMENT Department of the RENEWABLE ACQUISITION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 5 Management vacancies available. The Energy Contract Manager will negotiate and administer long-term contracts for renewable and non-renewable energy to support the development and integration of capacity and energy projects into unique island grids. This role is crucial for the Company's transition to 100% renewable energy and reliability needs. Responsibilities include involvement in procurements, leading negotiations, overseeing project development, and managing contracts for Oahu, Hawaii Island, and Maui County. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and technical experts, as well as community engagement and monitoring project performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering or business principles.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy technologies and their utility scale applications.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in renewable energy generation planning, contract negotiation, or business development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in evaluating and negotiating energy power purchase proposals.
  • Experience in contract management and PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS) or wind operational data analytics.
  • Experience in preparing testimony before public agencies.
  • Understanding of generation resource planning methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and administer power purchase agreements between Independent Power Producers, Co-generators, and Qualifying Facilities.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and compliance of all power purchase agreements.
  • Review and approve all monthly payments in accordance with executed purchase power agreements.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of renewable energy resources through requests for proposals and contract negotiations.
  • Lead cross-functional work teams in evaluating and negotiating renewable purchased power proposals.
  • Develop and deliver expert testimony and presentations supporting power purchase agreements.
  • Support priorities for the Energy Contract Management department and develop policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
