About The Position

The Energy Contract Manager at Hawaiian Electric is responsible for managing the development, evaluation, negotiation, and administration of energy power purchase agreements. This role involves overseeing competitive bidding processes, managing relationships with Independent Power Producers, and leading multi-disciplinary teams in the negotiation of energy purchase proposals. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and technical experts to ensure compliance and effective execution of contracts, while also engaging with the community and public agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in power system planning, contract negotiation, or business development.
  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies and their applications.
  • Experience with project management fundamentals and contract administration.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and software applications such as MS Project and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in evaluating and negotiating energy power purchase proposals.
  • Experience in providing testimony before public agencies or at governmental meetings.
  • Understanding of generation resource planning methodologies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, evaluation, negotiation, and administration of energy power purchase agreements.
  • Oversee competitive bidding, Feed in Tariff, and Bilateral Negotiations for Oahu, Hawaii Island, and Maui County.
  • Serve as the lead negotiator for the company in energy purchase agreements.
  • Ensure compliance and proper administration of all power purchase agreements.
  • Direct liaison activities with Independent Power Producers on operational matters.
  • Plan and coordinate the acquisition of renewable energy resources through requests for proposals and contract negotiations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in evaluating and negotiating renewable energy proposals.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management on power purchase agreement issues.
  • Prepare and present administrative reports and project status updates.
  • Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned.
