About The Position

Wake County Health and Human Services is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Energy Assistance - Eligibility Caseworker II to join our Energy Program team. This role focuses primarily on the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP), which provides assistance to low-income families facing heating- or cooling-related crises. In addition to CIP, this work unit administers funding sources like: Low Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), Emergency Assistance under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF-EA), and Wake County Emergency Assistance Program (WCEA). This position will be based at the Northern Regional Center Building, once training is completed. Training will occur at our Swinburne location. This role requires working in the office for the first six months or until quality work standards are met. Once standards are met this role is hybrid.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Three years of job-related experience
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record may be required.
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year or more of determining income eligibility for the Energy Assistance programs or related program
  • Proficient NCFAST skill level
  • Proficient OnBase skill level

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person interviews with clients to gather necessary information for determining eligibility.
  • Assess client situations and provide appropriate information about economic benefits, community resources, and other services.
  • Accurately enter data into computer systems to authorize benefits.
  • Request and evaluate verification documents needed to determine eligibility according to program policies.
  • Make eligibility determinations and maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Serve as backup for other caseworkers, handle reports, and use a document management system for caseload management.
  • Occasionally work at alternative Wake County or community-based locations after hours or on weekends during LIEAP season.
