Role description: About Arcadis Technical Advisory: Asset Advisory Maximizing the value of built and natural assets Arcadis provides comprehensive advisory services to clients seeking to invest in, optimize, or transform their assets. Organizations today are expected to extract maximum value from their assets, whether delivering capital projects efficiently, managing asset portfolios, or divesting and repurposing surplus properties. Leveraging our deep understanding of the entire asset lifecycle, we develop tailored solutions that address our clients’ unique needs and strategic objectives. Within this context, our Energy and Carbon Advisory Practice is an agile team focused on helping clients optimize both existing assets and new construction projects from an energy and carbon perspective. By delivering practical, data-driven strategies, we help clients reduce operational expenses (OPEX), improve energy performance, and achieve sustainability goals, all while unlocking long-term value across the built environment. As our new Junior Energy and Carbon Consultant, you will find these topics exciting and challenging as you work on various projects related to our Energy and Carbon Advisory team. We leverage our comprehensive understanding of the asset lifecycle to develop solutions that help organizations maximize the value of their assets. You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, support energy optimization and embodied carbon assessments, and provide actionable advisory services that maximize both economic and environmental outcomes. You will be part of a rapidly growing team dedicated to expanding advisory offerings and capabilities while also strengthening Arcadis' position and profile. Projects that we are currently doing for our clients are focused on Life Cycle Assessments, ESG Due Diligence, grants and funding support, and energy efficiency, energy modelling and decarbonization advisory services. Being centrally positioned within the organization, you will quickly start your career by quickly building a broad network, gaining a clear understanding of our strategy, and having the opportunity to be actively involved in various parts of the organization. Of course, you won't be doing this alone. Under the guidance of experienced colleagues and in collaboration with them, we will explore which projects you can participate in and what tasks you can take on within our team. Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s/Master’s in sustainability, environmental/energy engineering, architecture, or related fields.
  • Willing to work from Washington, DC or NYC offices with hybrid/remote flexibility and client site travel as needed.
  • Early experience in energy, water, sustainability, ESG, or building performance projects (internships or entry-level roles).
  • Proactive self-starter with initiative, comfortable learning new skills and stepping outside comfort zones.
  • Strong interest in Net Zero, sustainability, and contributing to thought leadership and client deliverables.
  • Basic Microsoft 365 proficiency, strong Excel modeling, and willingness to learn energy modeling, simulation, BIM, and LCA tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support lifecycle and embodied carbon assessments to evaluate construction materials, advancing sustainability and cost reduction goals.
  • Assist in crafting decarbonization roadmaps for industrial and commercial real estate clients aligned with operational and investment targets.
  • Conduct ESG due diligence on projects, focusing on carbon, health & safety, and environmental assessments with senior guidance.
  • Perform energy calculations, simulations, and ROI analyses for feasibility studies, building technical and modeling autonomy.
  • Collaborate on comprehensive energy audits and MEP assessments across various building types; take ownership of audit components.
  • Identify and propose energy, water, and GHG reduction strategies by assessing building systems; lead targeted efficiency initiatives.
  • Lead and assist renewable energy feasibility studies, including solar PV and energy storage evaluations.
  • Manage scopes within green building and infrastructure certification projects (LEED, ENV), developing project management skills.
  • Contribute to thought leadership development by researching trends and co-authoring white papers, case studies, and presentations.

  • The salary range for this position is $61,737 - $98,779. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
