The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) welcomes applications and nominations for the position of inaugural Dr. Karen J. Ivers Endowed Professorship in Biomaterial and Regenerative Dental Medicine. UMSOD is seeking a tenure-track associate or full professor in the field of dental biomaterials and regenerative medicine to advance the school’s research status, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and develop new external partnerships. This distinguished position requires an eminent research scientist, who will work with colleagues in the department, School, and across the university to obtain funding, teach and train students, advance science, and provide innovative solutions and translational discoveries to enhance patient care throughout the State of Maryland. Advancing scientific discovery is a vital part of the mission of UMSOD. The School supports transdisciplinary research programs in dental, oral, and craniofacial health, spanning both basic and clinical sciences. UMSOD has consistently ranked among the top 10 U.S. dental schools in NIH funding since 2010, reaching as high as No. 4 in 2020 (Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research). Research at UMSOD is strengthened through close collaboration with colleagues across the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, as well as with the University of Maryland, College Park in engineering and computer science. UMSOD investigators also partner with leading federal research institutions such as the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and maintain active collaborations with international research partners. These interdisciplinary partnerships foster innovative solutions and contribute to meaningful advances in oral health research.
