DEPARTMENT: Surgery JOB TITLE: Endoscopy Technician SHIFT: PRN, As Needed - Day Shift JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Endoscopy Technician performs a variety of routine duties to assist the nurse and physician in the delivery of patient care. Processes and maintains reusable endoscopy supplies and equipment in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED required
  • One year in healthcare, medical, or hospital setting (preferably in an area handling equipment) - Central Service, X-Ray, Nursing, and EMT
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

Nice To Haves

  • Additional college courses in medical related field, training in sterile techniques, surgical technology program preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, Certification as and Endoscopy Technician (CET), Advanced Required Certification as an Endoscopy Technician (ACET), or Completion of a Surgical Tech program preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician with procedures.
  • Proficient at preparing supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for the procedure.
  • Maintains an order within the procedure room for the purpose of efficiency and safety.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care, within scope of practice, in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors for patients and staff.
  • Proficient at cleaning procedure room before and between cases.
  • Receive and decontaminate instruments, equipment, and reusable supplies
  • Perform sterilization and reprocessing.
  • Prepare items to be sterilized and maintain sterility throughput proper handling
  • Operate equipment used for cleaning and disinfection endoscopic equipment
  • Receive and place supplies in assigned storage area
  • Completes annual education and regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulation
