The Endoscopy Technician is accountable to and performs duties under the direct, on-site supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician when providing delegated patient care tasks. This role supports both diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology/endoscopy procedures by performing a variety of direct and indirect clinical patient care activities and technical duties in accordance with established department policies and procedures. The Endoscopy Technician is expected to perform related duties as assigned after demonstrating competency.

Requirements

  • No prior experience required.
  • Demonstrated competency in reading and mathematics (verified by aptitude testing).
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of department orientation program.
  • Moderate physical strength and stamina required.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, mechanical aptitude, and intact or corrected vision and hearing.
  • Ability to maintain continuous mental and visual attention.
  • Ability to think independently and function effectively in stressful or emergency situations.
  • GED or HiSET

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting objective patient data (e.g., vital signs) to support assessment of patient needs and concerns.
  • Process specimens according to established procedure guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including flexible sigmoidoscopy and administration of enemas (Fleet and tap water) as directed.
  • Complete required documentation and administrative tasks, including use of clinical information systems (CIS), charge processing, filing, and telephone communication.
  • Assist physicians and RNs in implementing the established plan of care and during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Maintain procedure room supplies and equipment, including ordering, restocking, cleaning, and disinfecting endoscopes and equipment.
  • Provide efficient endoscopy room turnover and technical support.
  • Respond to emergency situations as directed by the RN and/or physician.
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by complying with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
  • Participate in continuing education and performance improvement activities.
  • Adhere to ethical, professional, and legal standards of practice, including patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Unit Manager.
