The Endoscopy unit at Banner Desert and Children’s Medical Center supports inpatient and outpatient units by providing diagnostic and advanced procedures. The Peri-operative department surgical team is known for its community-focused culture and collaborative team approach to deliver great patient care in the South East Region. This position assists with prescribed endoscopic procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols, ensuring optimal care/treatment to the patient population. Banner Desert Medical Center is one of Arizona's largest and most comprehensive hospitals with more than 700 licensed beds, including over 100 dedicated to children and 76 dedicated to our NICU. Areas of excellence include high-risk pregnancy and neonatal care, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, cardiology, oncology and emergency medicine. With 33 operating rooms, it offers a full range of surgical specialties and advanced technology. Banner Children's Hospital at Desert in Mesa, Arizona, is a state-of-the-art facility with over 200 beds, where specially trained nurses, physicians, and other clinical professionals utilize advanced technology to provide high quality, child-friendly, family-centered care. Its facilities feature a 76-bed NICU, a 24-bed PICU, six pediatric ORs, and a 22-bed ED, along with dedicated pediatric rehab, radiology, oncology, and hematology capabilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Certification for BLS is required.
  • 1 - 2 years of previous experience in a health care setting.
  • Must demonstrate effective organizational, communication and human relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with case preparation, pulls appropriate instruments and supplies.
  • May assists with maintaining the accurate information on preference cards.
  • Reviews case for procedural needs and ensures the correct diagnostic and therapeutic devices are available.
  • Assists in performing endoscopic procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Anticipates and prepares for changing needs.
  • Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure.
  • Disposes of sharps and trash.
  • Responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and storage of scopes and reusable devices.
  • Ensures that unused supplies are returned appropriately.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, assists with the proper set up of appropriate equipment and positioning devices/patients in procedures rooms.
  • Assist with the cleaning/stocking of procedure rooms and carts.
  • Supports the operations of the department by assisting with clerical duties as needed.
  • Works under direct supervision and follows pre-established procedures and protocols.
