About The Position

Assists medical and nursing staff during endoscopy procedures. Responsible for ensuring cleanliness of the endoscopy rooms and that they are fully prepared. Prepares and maintains instruments and equipment; may obtain specimens.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) months of clinical experience and/or training in an ancillary department.
  • BLS certification.
  • A basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, anatomy, surgical techniques and equipment, coding procedures for endoscopy technician practice scope.
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and the principles of sterile techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical health care record systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple requests and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Endoscopy Technician Certification by the SGNA-Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates.
  • One (1) year of experience in a comparable medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that endoscopy rooms are clean, sterile and stocked prior to procedures, including sterilizing surgical instruments.
  • Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
  • Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning; maintains or repairs endoscopic equipment.
  • Prepares suites or rooms according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
  • Cleans, disinfects, or calibrates scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards.
  • Positions or transports patients in accordance with instructions from medical personnel.
  • Sets up, scrubs and supports members of the team during endoscopic procedures including collecting specimens from patients using standard medical procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining logs, pulling up and/or entering patient information, doing inventory and supporting the administrative and clerical staff as needed.
  • Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
