The Endoscopy Technician (ET) functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and performs delegated functions such as planning, preparing and setting up for endoscopy cases. The Endoscopy Tech performs in an assistive role during endoscopy procedures and is expected to anticipate the needs of the physician within the scope of their practice. The Endoscopy Technician (ET) performs direct patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, and unit functions appropriate to the position and in compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and procedures. The ET is responsible for assisting in the management of supplies and equipment in the department. The ET may collect, report and document data and keeps the RN informed of pertinent changes. The ET participates in orientation of new personnel as appropriate. Prepares for endoscopy procedures; transports patient as requested; anticipates procedure/patient needs; and assists in timely setup/turnover. Performs any ancillary testing and other duties including but not limited to: drawing blood, setting up oxygen, measuring I&O, performing point of care testing, obtaining height and weight, and vital signs effectively communicates to the RN the patient responses to care provided in an accurate and timely manner. Assists on assigned procedures; performs post procedure tasks and timely case breakdown, appropriate scope and equipment management and room/department cleanup efficiently. Decontaminates and processes endoscopy equipment and adheres to standards and policies around decontaminating and tracking endoscopes used in procedures.
