About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY Assists in the delivery of patient care in the Endoscopy Center under the direct supervision of the RN/physician. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School education or equivalent. Experience: Surgical Technician or LPN, or prior experience as an Endoscopy Technician. Prior experience in an Endoscopy Unit preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrates a working knowledge of the computer scheduling and patient charting system. Demonstrates good customer service when dealing with patients, family members, physicians, and coworkers. Demonstrates manual dexterity in the use of required endoscopy instrumentation/equipment. Keeps emotions in check and engages patients with open, unbiased communication. High attention to detail. A team player, who is focused on attending to their workload, but also realizes that they are part of a team and are ready to do whatever is needed to carry out the required tasks. License/Certification/Registration: Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years. Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and, if employed by Mount Nittany Medical Center on or after 2020, hold and maintains a Surgical Technologist certification from an accredited certification program. ~OR~ Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist program sponsored by an entity holding nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and, if employed by Mount Nittany Health before 2020, and complete thirty (30) hours of relevant continuing education every two (2) years. ~OR~ Individuals who recently graduated from a surgical technology program have a six-month period to become certified; ~OR~ Successful completion of appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force; ~OR~ An individual who is authorized to practice some component of the healing arts by a license, permit, certificate or registration issued by a Commonwealth licensing agency or board. SGNA Associates Course Completion in the first 12 months of hire. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives general supervision from the Nurse Manager. Functions under the direct supervision of the Physician and/or Registered Nurses in the Endoscopy Center. The amount of supervision required is directly proportionate to the complexity of the task being performed. SUPERVISION GIVEN None

Responsibilities

  • Applies the principles of aseptic technique correctly and practices appropriate infection control.
  • Applies knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology to the endoscopy procedures to which assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of procedures, technology, equipment, and applicable standards of care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the setup, operation, maintenance, and cleaning of all equipment used in the center.
  • Assists in data collection to identify the patient's needs, problems, concerns or human responses (e.g. vital signs).
  • Assists, under the direction of the GI Registered Nurse, in the implementation of the established plan of care.
  • Assists the physician and/or GI Registered Nurse during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration.
  • Reprocesses and maintains equipment according to standards of infection control, policies/procedures and manufactures' instructions.
  • Maintains familiarity with the location and function of all emergency equipment and assists as during emergency situations.
  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
