About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician has three (3) main functional areas, those areas will be outlined below, to include general ambulatory surgery center duties. The focus of an Endo Tech is to be accountable for the delivery of safe, and quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High School graduate required.
  • Previous experience with computers is required.
  • Must possess knowledge of acceptable parameters of pulse oximetry and blood pressures, blood borne pathogens and aseptic techniques.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Must have sufficient strength to move carts, and assist patients while walking.
  • Certification/Licensure: G.I. Scope Reprocessing certification upon hire or obtain within 2 years.
  • Scope room staff who were employed as Scope Technicians prior to the 1/1/2017 TN law are not required to have certification.
  • Gastro One requires certification as part of ongoing employment and certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Staff must work under a certified scope reprocessor/grandfathered scope room staff until certification is achieved.
  • All staff working in the scope room must maintain 6 Sterile Processing IAHCSMM Specific CEU’s annually.
  • Dayton Gastro Endo Tech’s are required to float/travel to all DG locations as needed/required.
  • Incumbent must be capable & able to travel and have reliable transportation.
  • Understand/comprehend English as well as read/ follow written English instructions.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 35+ or more.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous medical office experience is preferable.
  • Computer skills – good working knowledge of MS office

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an adequate inventory of linens and supplies for the unit, to include par levels of supplies within endoscopy procedure rooms.
  • Practice infection control and standard precautions as trained or instructed.
  • Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals).
  • Disinfect carts and equipment between patients and maintain standards to provide a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
  • Handle equipment appropriately and in a manner to prevent damage.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include but are not limited to AAAHC standards, Medicare and state specific guidelines, OSHA, HIPPA, Federal Fraud and Abuse Laws.
  • Comply with ethical, professional, and legal standards inherent in-patient care and professional conduct.
  • Set up and assist physician with procedures.
  • Ensure that all the equipment is correct for the procedure and in good working order.
  • Safely deliver endoscopes to and from the procedure room.
  • Collect, label, and send specimens with the correct paperwork out of the procedure room.
  • Document thoroughly, accurately, and appropriately for each procedure.
  • Handle all scopes in and out of scope washers for proper disinfection.
  • Manually leak test, brush, and clean endoscopes.
  • Monitor and record chemical concentrations per policy to ensure high level disinfection of equipment is complete.
  • Maintain documentation of reprocessing safety checks to include all scope repairs, disinfectant, and filter change records.
  • Notify supervisor of any damage found while processing the scopes.
  • Accurately obtain vital signs as indicated and document on chart.
  • Escort patient/families through and assist in checking in of patients as scheduled or needed.
  • Assist in data collection to identify the patient’s needs, problems, concerns, or human responses.

  • Comply with One GI procedures, policies, and regulations relevant to your role.
  • Successfully completes all One GI training requirements (i.e. OSHA, HIPAA, HealthStream, compliance, etc.)
  • Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to: OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud and Abuse laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritize
  • Able to maintain standards and professionalism during periods of fluctuating workloads
  • Provide professional service to direct customers of One GI in all interactions.
  • Build effective working relationships with other team members.
  • Manage daily tasks to ensure business needs are consistently met.
