About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician is a crucial member of the healthcare team responsible for the infection prevention of endoscope preparation critical for patient safety. By reprocessing endoscopes, they must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to preclean, leak test, decontaminate, inspect, disinfect, transport, and store endoscopes in accordance with industry standards, guidelines, regulations, and manufacturer's instructions for use. The technician assists nurses and physicians during procedures, including emergencies, utilizing endoscopes, accessories, and any therapeutic equipment needed for the procedure. They also assist in obtaining biopsy specimens and polyps as directed by the physician and under the direct supervision of an RN. The technician maintains a professional working relationship with all members of the unit and promotes positive public relations for the hospital. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs related to the reprocessing of scopes and QA monitoring, as well as ensuring safety and comfort measures for patients. The technician enhances the attitude and teamwork of the unit to facilitate a positive work environment and maintains the skill level needed for the role by completing all required training and competencies.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Endoscopy Technician.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Reprocess endoscopes by precleaning, leak testing, decontaminating, inspecting, disinfecting, transporting, and storing in accordance with industry standards.
  • Assist nurses and physicians during endoscopic procedures, including emergencies.
  • Obtain biopsy specimens and polyps as directed by the physician under RN supervision.
  • Maintain professional relationships with unit members and promote positive public relations.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs related to reprocessing scopes and QA monitoring.
  • Observe and maintain isolation precautions and standard precautions on all patients.
  • Initiate and maintain a friendly, professional rapport with patients and respond to their needs.
  • Enhance teamwork and facilitate a positive work environment.
  • Complete yearly competencies and training to maintain skill level.
  • Follow daily schedules to ensure proper endoscope availability and set up procedure rooms.
