About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician is a crucial member of the healthcare team responsible for the infection prevention of endoscope preparation critical for patient safety. By reprocessing endoscopes, they must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to preclean, leak test, decontaminate, inspect, disinfect, transport, and store endoscopes in accordance with industry standards, guidelines, regulations, and manufacturer's instructions for use. The technician also provides assistance to nurses and physicians during procedures, including emergencies, utilizing endoscopes, accessories, and any therapeutic equipment needed for the procedure. They assist in obtaining biopsy specimens and polyps as directed by the physician and under the direct supervision of an RN. The technician maintains a professional working relationship with all members of the unit and promotes positive public relations for the hospital. They observe and maintain isolation precautions, follow hand washing guidelines, and provide safety and comfort measures for patients. The technician is responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs related to reprocessing scopes and QA monitoring, and they must adhere to HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality. Additionally, they enhance the attitude and teamwork of the unit, maintain their skill level through ongoing training, and demonstrate responsibility by following the daily schedule to ensure the proper type of endoscope is available for the physician.
