About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician II at Mayo Clinic plays a crucial role in assisting with both direct and indirect patient care in the Endoscopy unit. This position involves supporting registered nurses and physicians, managing endoscopy equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of procedure rooms. The technician is expected to demonstrate knowledge of patient care across various age groups and contribute to quality assurance and ancillary practices within the unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1+ year(s) of GI experience or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Maintain competency in Endoscopy Technician I.
  • Knowledge of multiple electronic applications, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and TEAMs.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting.
  • Experience performing multiple tasks within a work shift and prioritizing work including non-patient care tasks.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and accountability for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with direct patient care.
  • Familiarity with endoscopy procedures and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physicians in Endoscopy.
  • Assist with assessment of patient needs and follow through with the designated plan of action.
  • Care for, handle, and process endoscopy procedural equipment and turnover of the procedure room(s).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and communicate data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Participate in quality assurance audits and ensure staff are practicing at the highest level of scope cleaning ability.
  • Support ancillary practices such as Small Bowel Capsule and Carbohydrate Breath Tests.
  • Assist with diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures such as ERCP, EUS/EBUS, and GI bleeds.
  • Take overnight and weekend Endo tech call independently.
