Join our team of Life Changers! UPMC is hiring a full-time Endoscopy Technical Specialist to support the Gastro Associates team/office in Camp Hill. Shift/Hours: Monday-Friday, rotating hours from 7:30am-4:00pm -OR- 8:00am-4:30pm. One of the 8:00am-4:30pm shifts would require staying until the last scope is processed. No weekends or holidays! About the Team/Role: We are a freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center specializing in endoscopy procedures. Our center is supported by a highly collaborative, close‑knit team that works seamlessly to deliver excellent patient care. We offer free parking, including convenient garage parking. This role provides opportunities for continued education, including involvement in infection prevention initiatives and advanced endoscopy techniques. It is an excellent opportunity for professional growth as an Endoscopy Technical Specialist. Our Endoscopy Technicians assist physicians during procedures and are responsible for cleaning and reprocessing endoscopes following cases. As we are not yet utilizing EPIC, technicians also support various administrative and operational tasks as needed, making this a well‑rounded, hands‑on role.

Requirements

  • Endoscopy Tech with SGNA certification or graduate of CAAHEP approved Surgical Technology program with current license or graduate of Licensed Practical Nurse program with current license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification OR successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire.
  • License and Certification allows for ONE of the following: Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR SGNA Associates Program (Certificate)
  • SGNA Associates Program (Certificate) expires after 5 years and must be re-acquired prior to expiring.
  • Act 34
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an engaged and empowered member of the Endoscopy team, demonstrating a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and effective communication with all levels of staff.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to support safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care.
  • Interact with patients in a professional, friendly, and compassionate manner, ensuring respect for privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by identifying and responding to the needs of patients, families, and internal partners, while maintaining accountability for patient satisfaction across the continuum of care.
  • Remain receptive to feedback, questions, and constructive criticism, and willingly assist team members as needed.
  • Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures, including performing assist/scrub responsibilities.
  • Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures and assist with patient recovery as needed.
  • Assist with motility studies when required.
  • Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses to optimize intra‑procedure efficiency, minimize turnover times, and promote responsible resource utilization.
  • Demonstrate critical‑thinking skills by troubleshooting equipment and adapting to changing clinical situations based on knowledge and experience.
  • Follow standard precautions and apply principles of aseptic technique consistently.
  • Demonstrate competency in endoscope cleaning, high‑level disinfection, and sterilization processes; monitor parameters and ensure adherence to scope reprocessing protocols.
  • Ensure the integrity of sterile supplies prior to use and confirm proper decontamination of the endoscopy suite between procedures.
  • Complete all unit‑specific education, system‑wide competencies, and required training.
  • Support departmental objectives, policies, quality assurance initiatives, safety standards, environmental services, and infection prevention practices through ongoing education, in‑services, workshops, and current literature.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager or Nurse Manager.
