About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician supports quality patient care under the direct, on-site supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician. This role performs a variety of direct and indirect clinical tasks and technical skills within a diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology/endoscopy setting. The technician adheres to department policies, demonstrates competency in required tasks, and may perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • None required.
  • Demonstrated competency in reading and mathematics (verified through aptitude testing).
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, prioritize multiple tasks, and work effectively with others.
  • Completion of the organization’s orientation program.
  • Moderate physical strength with good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Intact or corrected vision and hearing.
  • Ability to maintain continuous mental and visual attention.
  • Independent thinking skills and the ability to perform under stressful or emergency conditions.
  • GED or HiSET

  • 6 months to 1 year in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting data to support patient assessments, including vital signs.
  • Process specimens according to established procedures.
  • Prepare patients for flexible sigmoidoscopy, including administration of Fleets or tap water enemas.
  • Provide general documentation and clerical support (CIS computer use, phone communication, filing, charge processing).
  • Assist RN and physician during patient care activities and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
  • Maintain endoscopy room supplies and equipment, including ordering, restocking, cleaning, and disinfecting scopes, rooms, and equipment.
  • Provide endoscopy room turnover and technical support.
  • Respond to emergency situations as directed by RN and/or physician.
  • Maintain a safe environment, follow all regulatory and organizational standards, and participate in ongoing education and performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of scope-of-practice requirements and uphold ethical, legal, and professional standards.
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Unit Manager.
