About The Position

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Endoscopy Technician II - Full time - Flexible shifts - plus call Major Responsibilities: Patient continuum of care is supported and safe patient care provided. 10)Initiate or collaborate with team for all safety initiatives such as timeout process, traceability of all equipment used and reporting of safety events. 1)Provides efficient patient transport to, within and from the unit. 2)Lab specimens are handled in a proper, efficient manner. 3)Assist in collection, labeling and transportation of specimens to and from the Lab. 4)Assist in pre and post procedure care of the patient under the guidance of a registered nurse. 5)Assist with procedures under the guidance of the registered nurse. Expands knowledge base of procedures to include more complex procedures after specific training is done and only under the guidance of a RN. 6)Sets up rooms and equipment in preparation for the patient. 7)Communicates pertinent information to the charge person. 8)Provides efficient equipment transport to, within and from the unit. 9)Assists in recovery area under the guidance of an RN by taking vital signs, transporting, assisting patients with dressing and undressing for procedures, and removing IVs. Endoscopes will be cleaned and decontaminated according to SGNA standards to provide a safe environment for patient care. Demonstrates independent function in ensuring that soiled instrumentation or equipment delivered to the department is decontaminated in a manner that prevents cross-contamination or damage. Competency is demonstrated through observation and annual competency. 1)Wears protective attire when performing decontamination. 2)Follows standards of asepsis. 3)Follows established procedures to ensure decontamination is complete following SGNA guidelines. 4)Sets up decontamination equipment for operation and ensures proper function and work flow throughout the shift. 5)Maintains a neat and clean work area at all times. 6)Reports improper equipment operation to person in charge in a timely manner. 7)Handles infectious waste according to hospital policy. 8)Troubleshoots scope problems on a regular basis for potential problems. Functions in a lead capacity while assisting the unit with other duties as assigned. 1)Ordering of supplies and maintains adequate inventory. (outside and interdepartmental) 2)Demonstrates a proactive role by precepting new associates within Endo to learn the scope cleaning, maintenance and decontamination techniques per SGNA guidelines. 3)May assist with call backs to patients post procedures while referring calls to the nurse when appropriate . 4)Assist with phone calls. 5)Assists with the secretary role as needed. 6)Intermediate knowledge of computers by sending and retrieving information. (e.g. Olympus system). 7)Assists with assembly and disassembling of patient charts. 8)Precepts new employees and assists with the yearly competency testing of associates on the unit. High level disinfection is performed in a safe and effective manner. 1)Uses appropriate testing for purpose of monitoring the function of the high level disinfection equipment on every cycle and documents the results on the log. 2)Observes and assesses the operation of each unit for every cycle by interpreting the recorder data provided. 3)Places each item in the processor with appropriate setup to ensure high level disinfection. 4)Reports malfunction to charge person and Biomedical engineering immediately. 5)Performs chemical and biological monitoring per the departmental protocol. Equipment testing will be validated and recorded. Appropriate follow up on repairs will be demonstrated. 1)Ensures that all the components of the equipment are present, assembled and ready for uses each time the equipment is used or at the end of the shift per item protocol. 2)Tests equipment for correct function following established procedures. 3)Equipment and scopes will be sent for repair after consultation with the charge person. 4)Accurate records of repairs and maintenance are kept per policy. 5)Communicates with Biomedical department when repairs of the endoscopes are necessary.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years Endoscopy Tech experience
  • Knowledge of computer keyboard preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal/ customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current CPR certification
  • SGNA certification within 6 months of hire date
