About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician position at Advocate Christ Medical Center involves providing safe and efficient patient care in the Gastrointestinal Services department. The role includes assisting in pre and post-procedure care under the guidance of a registered nurse, ensuring patient safety during procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The technician will be responsible for patient transport, assisting with procedures, handling lab specimens, and ensuring proper decontamination of equipment according to SGNA standards. The position requires participation in quality improvement initiatives and effective communication with the healthcare team. The technician will also be involved in equipment testing, inventory management, and may precept new employees. This full-time role requires flexibility in working hours, including on-call responsibilities and rotating shifts.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year related experience, preferably in patient care.
  • Knowledge of computer keyboard preferred.
  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with SGNA standards for decontamination and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in pre and post-procedure care of patients under the guidance of a registered nurse.
  • Provide efficient patient transport to, within, and from the unit.
  • Assist with positioning of patients and basic patient care during procedures.
  • Ensure patient safety during electrocautery procedures and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Handle lab specimens efficiently, including collection, labeling, and transportation.
  • Set up rooms and equipment in preparation for procedures and facilitate turnaround time.
  • Communicate pertinent information to the RN/Charge Nurse/Manager/Physician.
  • Ensure proper decontamination of endoscopes and instrumentation to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team building activities.
  • Perform high-level disinfection and monitor equipment function.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs and maintenance.
