About The Position

Prepares and handles supplies, instruments and equipment in both sterile and non sterile functions. Functions primarily as the scrub member of the surgical team under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent, required.
• Knowledge of endoscopy supplies, equipment and instruments normally acquired by completing a Surgical Technology Program.
• Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent communication skills to understand directions and provide information.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation of room for procedures by assembling and checking function of equipment, supplies, instruments and special items needed for procedure.
• Assists RN in preparation of patients to ensure comfort and safety; and to allay fears and give reassurance.
• Sets-up instruments and supplies for assigned procedure.
• Assists the procedure team by passing the required instruments to the physician.
• Identifies, with RN, intra-procedure medication, dosage and labeling of all solutions and drugs.
• Collaborates with physician and RN in proper specimen identification and care.
• Assists in clean-up of procedure suite between cases including, but not limited to, disposal of contaminated waste and terminally cleaning of instruments, checking their function.
• Operates Steris.
• Replenishes special supplies, as needed.
• Cares for special instruments and equipment.
• Assists in returning unused supplies to proper place.
• Assists in bringing specimens to lab.
• Performs related duties, as required.
