About The Position

The End User Computing Specialist will work with CLAS IT to configure and install networked computers, ensure the proper operation of computer hardware and software on the UF Network, and provide web-page support. The role involves research, testing, installation, and troubleshooting of software in a Linux environment, as well as across multiple other platforms. As a front-line desktop support position, this role assists faculty and staff with PC, macOS, and Linux platforms. Key responsibilities include: Respond to technical support requests from faculty, staff, and students, including troubleshooting, installation, configuration, and upgrades for end-user systems. Minor consulting and training for new systems or applications may also be required. Research, test, install, and troubleshoot software packages used by department researchers, including IDL, IRAF, ArcGIS, and Python. Monitor and manage support requests, reassigning and distributing tickets to other IT staff when needed, and following up on escalated support cases. Work with department faculty to implement, build, and revise web pages in line with UF and CLAS branding guidelines. Diagnose and resolve network-related issues, including port connections and wireless access. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.

  • Proficiency with Windows and macOS client operating systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, and students in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of common software packages such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, SAS, SPSS.
  • Experience in web page design and maintenance, following established branding guidelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, especially with hardware and software in diverse operating environments.
