EMTs respond swiftly and safely to emergency situations, performing both routine and complex procedures in accordance with established protocols and quality control measures. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of the scene and assisting in the control of activities during emergencies. EMTs also play a crucial role in monitoring record systems and quality control, troubleshooting issues, and assisting in the orientation of new employees. They operate various EMS and respiratory therapy equipment, maintain and troubleshoot this equipment, and follow physician orders for procedures and care guidelines. Documentation of findings, maintaining logs, and ensuring patient confidentiality are also key responsibilities. Additionally, EMTs may assist in the Emergency Department under the direction of a registered nurse, performing tasks such as applying EKGs, initiating intravenous therapy, and assisting with wound care. The position requires a high level of resourcefulness and the ability to transport patients safely while providing necessary care during transit.
