About The Position

Provides fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, disaster response, and hazardous material mitigation for the purpose of saving lives and protecting property. This position also supports a wide range of department programs as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and the reservation.
  • Valid driver’s license and be eligible for automobile insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check.
  • Must successfully pass drug screening and Tribal Gaming Agency Level III background investigation.
  • Current ACLS and PALS, or PALS equivalent, satisfactory to the department
  • IFSAC Firefighter I certification, or equivalent, satisfactory to the department
  • IFSAC Hazmat Awareness certification, or equivalent, satisfactory to the department
  • Currently certified as a Washington State EMT-P
  • Certified Firefighter I (IFSAC or State Equivalent) HAZMAT Awareness. Preference will be given to Firefighter II and HAZMAT Operations
  • Current Certification as Washington State EMT
  • Current Wildland Firefighter II or obtain within 30 days of employment
  • ICS 100 and 200, NIMS 700 and 800
  • Certified AHA or Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor. (or the ability to obtain within one year of hire)
  • Washington State Boaters Safety card. (or the ability to obtain within one year of hire)
  • This position requires overtime. Overtime will be paid after 212 hours in a 28-day cycle.
  • This position requires work to be performed outside general business hours under all types of weather conditions. Weekends, holidays, shiftwork (48-96 schedule) and on-call status are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to a wide variety of fire incidents such as brush fires, vehicle fire and structure fires.
  • Responds to a wide variety of emergency medical incidents. Provides medical care to patients consistent with EMS training and certification.
  • Respond to incidents requiring special operations and assist consistent with the level of training as determined by the department.
  • Conducts equipment, facility, and apparatus inspections to ensure safety and response readiness.
  • Assists with supervision, training, development of volunteer department personnel.
  • Assists with coordinating mutual fire protection plans, emergency response, and other department activities with surrounding jurisdictions, other departments, and organizations as assigned.
  • Can instruct First Aid/CPR classes through KTFD to public.
  • Assists with coordinating and preparing a variety of plans, reports, presentations, and records.
  • Assists with control issue of occupancy permits and similar licenses.
  • Participates in Department/Tribal sponsored public events or activities.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
