About The Position

The EMT/Paramedic Support Agent functions as the primary coordinator for patient transfers, bed placement, ambulance ordering, and hospital coordination. This role involves managing or triaging all incoming calls to the Regional Telephonic Medicine Center (RTMC) according to established protocols. The agent supports clinical staff at the RTMC within their protocols and scope of practice, including all work associated with the Virtual Hospital and Mobile Health Partnership program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years field experience working as an Oregon EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic.
  • Oregon, Washington or National certification as an EMT - Intermediate, Advanced EMT or EMT - Paramedic required upon hire/transfer.
  • Five (5) years experience as an EMT - Intermediate, Advanced EMT or EMT-Paramedic may substitute for active certification.
  • Experience within the last year as a KPNW RTMC Support Agent may substitute for required certification.
  • Excellent inter-personal and oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking ability.
  • Effective in conflict resolution and team building.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working at Kaiser Permanente.
  • Dispatch experience.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience.
  • Proficient in MS office programs, including Word, Excel, and Access.

Responsibilities

  • Answers all incoming calls to RTMC, performs intake and triages information, and directs calls to appropriate resources.
  • Documents all phases of patient transfers, referrals, critical labs, and urgent appointments per protocol.
  • Coordinates all ED transfers, inpatient bed placement, and ambulance transport.
  • Interfaces with Hospital HAS, PFC, bed board, and Physicians to assess hospital capacity and ability to accept patients.
  • Coordinates MD to MD consults for hospital admissions and transfers.
  • Tracks all patient ED visits and internalizes appropriate repatriations under current protocols.
  • Participates in internal quality assurances, insurance verification, chart reviews, and data entry.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, hospital operations, and emergency transport resources.
  • Assists with other RTMC duties as needed.
