About The Position

The Lead EMT at Nemours is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of pediatric patients from referring hospitals to various facilities. This role involves operating emergency vehicles, assisting transport teams, and providing patient care under supervision. The Lead EMT also plays a crucial role in mentoring other EMTs and managing supplies and equipment, ensuring high standards of care in a family-centered environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Florida Department of Health approved EMT program or equivalent
  • Active Florida EMT certification prior to start date
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Certificate) or approved equivalent
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • Valid Florida State Driver's License
  • Minimum of 2 years of driving experience in Emergency Medical Services capacity; 3+ years preferred
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the vehicle for patient transport.
  • Assist the transport Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist in setting up equipment and therapies.
  • Provide patient care under the supervision of the transport team RN/RT and Medical Command Officer.
  • Assist with patient care technician roles throughout the hospital as assigned.
  • Deliver care in a non-judgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that values diversity.
  • Participate in research studies, evidence-based practice projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain patient/family confidentiality and privacy within legal and regulatory parameters.
  • Engage in self and peer evaluation to improve practice according to professional standards.
  • Monitor, schedule, and maintain repairs and maintenance for the ambulance fleet.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to other EMTs.
