The position involves performing basic and intermediate level of care within the EMT-Basic and Intermediate scope of practice. Responsibilities include finding and recording vital signs, initializing patient assessments, supplying oxygen, controlling bleeding, wound care, splinting, and cardiac monitoring. The role also includes assisting in childbirth and psychological crisis intervention, as well as ensuring the safe movement of patients and continuing care during transport to healthcare facilities. Additionally, the EMT is responsible for checking the emergency vehicle for operational readiness, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring that patient care equipment and supplies are in order. The EMT will drive the emergency vehicle safely in response to medical or trauma emergencies, maintain medical report documentation per HIPAA standards, dispense approved medications, provide home visits, assist in community education programs, and attend department staff meetings as required. The EMT must document all patient care and maintain patient confidentiality while performing other assigned duties.
