The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing life-saving medical care to sick and injured individuals in pre-hospital settings. Under the direction of a paramedic, EMTs respond to emergency calls, administer care according to established protocols, and transport patients to appropriate medical facilities. The EMT ensures quality patient care while adhering to state regulations (Kansas KBEMS) and local protocols as approved by the Medical Staff.

  • Respond to emergency medical calls and provide life support care to patients in accordance with state and local protocols.
  • Assist paramedics in the assessment, stabilization, and transport of patients to medical facilities.
  • Perform medical interventions including but not limited to basic airway management, CPR, bleeding control, and bandaging.
  • Monitor patients during transport, ensuring a safe and comfortable transfer to the receiving facility.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, hospital staff, and other emergency responders.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in compliance with EMS standards and local policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification and improve care practices.
  • Maintain and inspect emergency equipment, including vehicles, ensuring readiness for deployment.
  • Provide compassionate and empathetic care while managing stressful and potentially traumatic situations.
  • Must maintain current EMT certification as per Kansas State KBEMS regulations.
  • 1-2 years of experience in emergency medical services is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations, demonstrating excellent judgment and critical thinking.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • If not ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) or PALS certified, the employee must enroll in the next available class at Labette Health.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
