Requirements

  • Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician Course preferred.
  • Successful annual completion of hospital administered EKG test.
  • One year clinical related experience preferred (i.e., nursing assistant, medical technician, PCT).
  • EMT experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care necessary for efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
  • Assists by performing rooming, vital signs, collecting data, performing procedures, transporting non monitored and stable monitored patients.
  • Monitors central monitors in the ED with recognition and documentation of rhythm.
  • Stocks supplies and performs other specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, INT, Accudata, splinting, etc.
  • Provides basic care functions and treatments (vital signs, daily weights, splints, specimen collection, etc).
  • Performs phlebotomy and labels blood tubes correctly.
  • Applies simple splints, dressings, and slings for uncomplicated injuries.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations.
  • Performs EKG promptly and accurately.
  • Transports non monitored patients to diagnostic testing areas and inpatient room.
  • Transports stable monitored patients to diagnostic testing areas and inpatient telemetry and critical care rooms.
  • Performs simple patient assessments, manual BP, pulse oximetry, IV insertion, blood glucose measurements, administration of inhaled nebulizer, IM/SC injection, vaccine administration.
