SUMMARY: Provides emergency health care services to patients per local protocol under the direction of local medical control and the EMS Director by performing patient care and other duties, as assigned, in support of the District’s overall mission of quality service and patient care.

Requirements

  • Completion of Paramedic training from an accredited college or technical school
  • State of Texas Paramedic Certification Required
  • Certification as a Paramedic through the Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Valid, current ACLS, and PEPP and/or PALS certification
  • Must have a valid BLS for Healthcare CPR certification
  • Must have a valid, current Texas Class C (or higher) driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to read, analyze, and follow protocols, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations, and the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Verbal communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, family members, customers, groups of managers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measurement common to medicine, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and ability to compute medication calculations
  • Ability to efficiently use a computer to enter patient care reports and use other software
  • Ability to read a map and follow directions
  • Ability to safely drive an ambulance or other vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a National Registered Paramedic or working toward certification also recommended, but not required.
