The position involves performing level life support, transport, stabilization procedures, and emergency medical care at the Basic Level in the Emergency Services program of the County. The employee is responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, and transporting them to medical appointments and facilities. The work includes ensuring quality emergency patient care standards, availability of proper equipment and treatment, and making sound judgment and treatment decisions. The role is subject to various environmental conditions and hazards associated with emergency medical work, including exposure to blood and compliance with OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. The employee works under the supervision of a Shift or Program Supervisor and a Paramedic or Intermediate on assigned calls, with evaluations based on peer review, observation, and public feedback.

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance.
  • Administer basic level life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment.
  • Gather patient medical and insurance information and input it into the computer.
  • Complete necessary records and reports for emergency calls, including billing documentation and legal accountability.
  • Participate in continuous training to improve competence in medical technical work and ambulance service operation.
  • Study street and road patterns in the County for efficient future runs.
  • Inspect and test ambulances and emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory and cleanliness.
  • Perform minor maintenance of Emergency Medical Service facilities and maintain health and fitness.
  • Completion of training and experience to qualify as an EMT at the Basic level or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of emergency medical procedures at the EMT basic level.
  • Skill in administering emergency medical procedures and techniques according to established protocols.
  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in emergency care.
  • Familiarity with County geography and locations of roads and streets.
  • Ability to recognize patient traumas and medical emergencies for appropriate treatment.
  • Skill in safe operation of rescue equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and work with diverse populations.
  • Hourly rate of $20.71/HR
