About The Position

The Hackensack Meridian Health Ambition Academy offers recent high school graduates a direct path to a high-demand healthcare career, serving as a powerful alternative to attending college. Participants receive paid, hands-on training, and professional guidance as an EMT apprentice at one of our top-ranked medical centers. Once the apprentices complete their respective programs, they will be eligible to apply for permanent positions within our statewide network. The EMT Apprenticeship class will be held in Edison. You must be a current high school senior who is graduating in June 2026 to be eligible for the HMH Ambition Academy. Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is partnering with approved NJ EMS training centers to provide an opportunity for individuals looking to enter the healthcare field as an Emergency Medical Technician. Candidates of this role will be paid to attend the program. The cost of tuition and books will also be covered. While the program is in session, students will have the opportunity to begin their Hackensack Meridian Health orientation and onboarding. Upon successful completion of the EMT program and NREMT examination, candidates will commit to a minimum of two years of full-time employment as a non-emergent EMT with Hackensack Meridian Health.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
  • Must be a current high school senior who is graduating in June 2026 to be eligible for the HMH Ambition Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Attends all training sessions (virtual and in person).
  • Completes all assigned coursework.
  • Verifies skills proficiency by passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination.
  • Interacts professionally with peers, patients, leadership, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel, and hospital emergency department staff.
  • Responsible for baseline and continuing knowledge of all applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations concerning emergency medical services, basic life support ambulance service, EMT certification, etc.
  • Conducts self in a professional and dignified manner at all times, so as to preserve the public's perception of HMH as New Jersey's leading healthcare provider.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
