About The Position

Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Paramedic/EMT/AEMT - ED Tech to join our Ambulance and Emergency Department team. This dual-role position provides out-of-hospital emergency care and supports patient care within the Emergency Department. The ideal candidate will be a certified paramedic with strong clinical skills, a commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Iowa State Certified Paramedic, RN Extender, EMT or AEMT.
  • Valid Iowa Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Completion of ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS courses.
  • Basic Life Instructor Trainer certification preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and organizational abilities.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Understanding of Medicare compliance and infection prevention protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of field experience as EMT and/or Paramedic preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency and non-emergency care per medical director protocols.
  • Respond to calls and transfers, ensuring timely and professional service.
  • Complete vehicle inspections, maintenance, cleaning, and restocking.
  • Participate in HAZMAT and TB transport teams, including patient decontamination.
  • Maintain current knowledge through continuing education and professional development.
  • Act as a team leader for PRN staff, part-time employees, and students.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with procedures (e.g., suturing, casting, catheterization).
  • Transport, position, and assist patients with personal care and belongings.
  • Monitor vital signs, collect intake/output data, and assist with exams.
  • Operate cardiac monitors, oxygen equipment, and perform EKGs and glucose testing.
  • Perform venous and capillary blood sampling, IV/IO insertion, and medication administration.
  • Maintain sterile technique during procedures and handle instruments safely.
  • Provide one-on-one observation for confused or psychiatric patients.
  • Accurately document patient care and communicate changes in condition.
