The EMS Liaison & Educator serves as the primary clinical, educational, and relationship-based link between St. Charles Hospital and the regional prehospital community. This role combines EMS education, clinical credibility, outreach, and operational coordination to strengthen EMS confidence in St. Charles, improve patient flow, and expand the hospital’s role as a preferred destination for emergency care. The position is responsible for EMS training, continuing education, protocol support, and quality feedback, while also acting as a visible, trusted liaison to EMS agencies, fire departments, and regional partners. This role supports hospital leadership goals related to EMS volume growth, quality improvement, and community reputation, and works closely with ED leadership, ICU leadership, nursing education, and hospital administration.

Requirements

  • NYS-certified Paramedic (required)
  • Additional education in healthcare management, education, or a related field (preferred)
  • Active NYS Paramedic Certification
  • American Heart Association Instructor Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • CPR/AED Instructor Certification
  • PHTLS Instructor (preferred)
  • NYS EMS Instructor and/or Lab Instructor (preferred)
  • Significant experience in prehospital emergency medicine
  • Prior experience in EMS education, instruction, or training leadership
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple EMS agencies
  • Strong understanding of hospital operations and EMS–hospital interfaces
  • Highly credible clinical presence among EMS providers
  • Strong educator with the ability to teach learners at all levels
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and able to work independently
  • Professional demeanor with strong relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable operating across clinical, educational, and administrative domains
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Responsibilities

  • EMS Education & Training:
  • Serves as EMS Educator for St. Charles Hospital, ensuring compliance with:
  • American Heart Association (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
  • NYS Department of Health EMS CME requirements
  • Designs, implements, and delivers EMS-focused education, including:
  • CME lectures
  • Skills labs
  • Case reviews
  • Simulation-based learning
  • Provides education to:
  • Paramedics
  • EMTs
  • ED nurses
  • Physicians
  • Hospital staff
  • Community groups
  • Maintains all training center documentation, records, instructor credentials, and compliance standards
  • Adapts teaching strategies to multiple learning styles and experience levels
  • EMS Liaison & Outreach:
  • Serves as the primary point of contact between St. Charles Hospital and:
  • Local EMS agencies
  • Volunteer and career fire departments
  • EMS leadership
  • Training officers
  • Conducts regular station visits, in-service programs, and relationship-building outreach
  • Promotes St. Charles’:
  • ED capabilities
  • ICU capabilities
  • Specialty services
  • Transfer and consultation pathways
  • Addresses EMS concerns, clinical questions, and system navigation issues in real time
  • Assists EMS agencies in understanding destination decision-making, protocols, and patient pathways
  • Operational & Administrative Support:
  • Coordinates scheduling, logistics, and communication for EMS education programs
  • Maintains accurate records of:
  • CME credits
  • Attendance
  • Certifications
  • Assists in the development of educational metrics, EMS engagement tracking, and outreach reporting
  • Supports hospital initiatives related to:
  • EMS growth
  • Community engagement
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Maintains compliance with all hospital, state, and regulatory standards
